Eva Braga Simões

 

Born in Braga, Eva Braga Simões began her musical studies at the age of 6 at the Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory of Music, where she studied piano and flute. She holds a degree in Singing from the University of Aveiro, having been awarded a merit scholarship.

 

Studied under António Salgado, Peter Harrison, Palmira Troufa, Sara Braga Simões, José Oliveira Lopes, Ana Ester Neves, Laura Sarti, Patricia MacMahon and Jill Feldman.

 

As a soloist, Eva has played works such as G. B. Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and Salve Regina (conducted by Cesário Costa); J. S. Bach’s Magnificat and Christmas Oratorio; Vivaldi’s Gloria; Mozart’s Requiem, Coronation Mass, Missa Brevis KV92 and KV65; Duruflé’s Requiem; Handel’s Gloria (for soprano solo) andDixit Dominus; Tarik O’Regan’s The Ecstasies Above (conducted by Simon Carrington), Britten’s A Ceremony of Carrols, Xenakis’ Nuits and A Colonne; Arvo Pärt’s Passio (conducted by Paul Hillier); Steve Reich’s Proverb and Music for mallet instruments voices and organ, Wolfgang Rihm’s Nachtwach and John Cage’s Four2, Aria and Hymns and Variations. Eva made her opera debut in Henry Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas (conducted by Cesário Costa). She also participated in John Blow’s Venus & Adonis, Debussy’sL’Enfant Prodigue, and was Bessie in Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill’s Mahagonny Songspiel (conducted by António Saiote). She was also a soloist in A Soberba under the actor António Fonseca and in Adam Darius Yukio Mishima (conducted Kazimir Kolesnik’s) in Fundação Serralves Auditorium. In 2010 sang in O Embargo soundtrack, an António Ferreira awarded movie, based on a tale by José Saramago and in 2011 made her debut as a soloist in Rome, with Giampaolo di Rosa.

 

Recently, Eva has specialised in early and contemporary music, having performed with Paul Hillier, Simon Carrington, James Wood, Kaspars Putniņš, Christoph König, Peter Rundel, Graham O’Reilly, Peter Philips, Jonathan Ayerst, António Vassalo Lourenço, Baldur Brönnimann, Fernando Miguel Jalôto, Rainer Zipperling, Ketil Haugsand, Andrew Parrott, Antonio Florio, Laurence Cummings, Arianna Savall and Steve Reich.
Eva Braga Simões works regularly with La Farsa, Sinfonieta de Braga, Psallentes (Belgium) and Ars Nova Copenhagen.

 

Eva is also a member of Vocal Ensemble, AriannaEnsemble (Spain), Cappella Musical Cupertino de Miranda and Coro Casa da Música.
